The Programme

The Redefine™ programme is for individuals experiencing difficulties with weight, associated mental health conditions and metabolic co-morbidities related to being overweight. It is comprehensive and holistic medical weight management programme that aims to evaluate the cause of your weight gain first and why you have failed in the past. The objectives are to manage your medical conditions, as well as increase your mortality and life expectancy through evidence based weight loss methods that produce results.

In addition, other key objectives are:

  • Addressing barriers to weight loss and motivation issues

  • Prescribing and tailoring an exercise programme that suits the individuals

  • Tackling emotional, comfort and binge eating syndrome

  • Improving dysfunctional thinking about food and dieting

  • Breaking food addiction


Under the supervision of the Dr Marlene Tham, medications, complementary products and Very Low Calorie Diets (VLCD) may be prescribed in selected cases to aid in appetite control, fat absorption and activating metabolism. All metabolic conditions such as high cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure and thyroid disease will be identified or reviewed to ensure that they are optimally managed and treated. This will be fed back to your GP or specialists.

1. Health assessment and testing

Your initial assessment will include physical, psychological and biochemical & metabolic tests to evaluate your current state of health and well being. This includes tests and examinations for medical conditions which can affect your quality and the length of your life. Some of these conditions include heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, cancers, arthritis, sleep apnoea, gall bladder disease & heartburn. Body composition scanning may be done if requested.


2. Diet

Initially there is a structured format of eating which will facilitate weight loss. Following that, the main aim is to create sustainable healthier way of eating that fit in with your lifestyle and help you maintain your weight loss.


3. Exercise

Individualized exercise plans that incorporate structured exercise, as well as ways to increase daily exercise and activities that stimulate weight loss, metabolism and maintenance within your medical limitations and physical restrictions and time commitments will be created.


4. Mind

The main purpose is to address issues such as barriers to weight loss, dysfunctional thoughts and behaviours, emotional and binge eating, body image concerns, motivation and goal setting.

This is done using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness techniques. If needed you may undergo therapy to explore prior events that have shaped the way you are and may be currently contributing to your inability to reach your goals and remain focused.


5. Medications, complementary and natural products
