The Redefine™ Programme

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

The psychological part of the programme uses cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) which looks at restructuring the way you think about food and exercise, identifying barriers both physically and mentally and modifying and promoting behaviours that enhance weight loss and weight maintenance and also some aspects of mindfulness.

CBT is imperative to ensure that your thinking is appropriate to maximize weight loss by eliminating emotional eating and comfort binging. Your behaviours are modified to cope with stressful situations, habit breaking and relapse prevention. New skills will be created to replace less desirable ones that may be hindering your attempt to be a healthy weight and also to maintain that weight loss.

CBT can also help with treating binge eating, dissatisfaction with body shape and weight, issues concerning control over eating and eliminating social pressures.

There is a large body of evidence supporting the use of cognitive behavioural therapy. Behvaioural therapy is considered 1st line in treating obesity as recommended by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.

In the International Journal of Medical Reviews, it was found Cognitive Behavioural Therapy along with diet and exercise should be used to improve the effectiveness of traditional methods of weight loss in adults. Read Review - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Treatment of Adult Obesity.
